About The Event

This event will present scientific evidence from the Galapagos Islands and Rapa Nui to highlight the unfair burden of plastic pollution on the Pacific islands and improve collective understanding of the social and environmental impact this has on these landscapes, biodiversity and communities. We will announce an Action Plan to begin to deliver on the ambition of the Pacific Leaders Summit Declaration from Rapa Nui (2024) through contributing to the acceleration of concrete actions to protect the ocean from plastic and microplastic pollution in the Pacific region. We will call attendees to action to join signatories in exploring viable solutions to some of the most pertinent plastic problems in the Pacific.

Presenters:

  • Arturo Izurieta, Director of the Galapagos National Park
  • Nunú Fernández, Director of Planning for the Municipality of Rapa Nui
  • Benjamín Ilabaca, Legal Advisor for the Municipality of Rapa Nui
  • Jen Jones, CEO of Galapagos Conservation Trust
